Anti-Muslim writer A.J. Kern wants Bachmann’s old congressional seat

A.J. Kern, a Sauk Rapids resident and the St. Cloud Times’ resident anti-refugee columnist, wants to move to Washington.

She’s aiming to replace Tom Emmer as representative of Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, the post Emmer’s predecessor Michele Bachmann occupied with fame and flair.

Kern, who exhibits all the signs of a classic Tea Party darling, frequently blames Muslim immigrants for federal deficits as well as economic difficulties and crime in St. Cloud. According to theSt. Cloud Times, Kern criticized the formerly fire-spitting, mud-slinging Emmer for chilling out on conservative values when he entered Congress.

As a state representative, Emmer proposed eliminating the minimum wage. He also wanted to amend the Minnesota Constitution to outlaw gay marriage, and declared that he would oppose any laws attempting to protect gay kids from bullies.

But in Washington, Emmer has cast votes that pissed off conservatives. He supported a version of the Department of Homeland Security bill, which funded President Obama’s executive actions to defer deportation for undocumented immigrants who arrived in America as children. He voted for the Every Student Succeeds Act, which Congressman John Kline (R-Minn.) authored to replace the No Child Left Behind Act, which shifted Americans schools’ priorities away from student improvement to standardized testing. Emmer also wants to trade with Cuba, which is still Communist.

If Kern receives the Republican endorsement to run for Emmer’s seat, she might be popular enough to win in a district that kept Bachmann in Congress from 2007 to 2015. Bachmann, who went on the radio recently to warn the world about Antichrist Obama taking over the United Nations, sets a high bar. Kern could be on a better track to reach it than Emmer these days.
